Īssociate Producer, People Vs. Their burgers are poison and full of wasps (according to April) but they sure do taste good, though Paunch Burger is one of Parks and Recs most firmly established business as they have no issue targeting Pawnees obese population. Other treats in this one: the way Tom daintily ran way from the bottomless garbage collector, Craig screaming "I want to throw up and kill myself!" at the site of cute dogs, Perd thinking "dirt, rust and even broken glass" were chemicals, and Ron testing the overall safety of his crib buy hitting it with his truck. We have all the best food from Pawnee to test our reactors in this Parks and Rec themed Try Not To Eat Challenge! Will the Meat Tornado or Paunch Burger be enough to break them? His eagerness to assume that every sparse crib-building instruction given by Ron was subtle, sage parenting advice wore thin, but Ron claiming to love Moby Dick because it contained no "frou frou symbolism," and was simply about a man hating an animal, was amazing. And I especially liked all the celebrity parenting books that Chris had read in preparation for his bundle of joy ("Are You Gonna Crawl My Way?," "I'd Like to Solve the Puzzle of Parenting," "Rad Dads"). ![]() ![]() And even though a little Chris Traeger goes a long way, I enjoyed his time with Ron. And April stealing Andrew Luck's wallet was pretty sweet. But I did like Tom throwing the ball weakly, expecting team members to fetch it like Golden Retrievers ("Tommy doesn't run"). Also, who can't appreciate the fact that one of Donna's top three movies is Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey? All the pictures available for this episode were from the Parks gang's visit to Lucas Oil Stadium to work out with the Colts (as you can see above), so not exactly integral to the main story. I loved when he changed his mind about how long he planned to lie down. It wasn't all that hilarious, but "crazy Craig" was back and helped provided some much needed laughs. Donna was integrated more here, in a sweet story involving her bonding with April over each other's spirit dog (or in Donna's case, a cat). Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman on Parks and Recreation. No Ann in this one, perhaps giving us a taste of what the show will soon be like without star Rashida Jones. Although Leslie did find out that she wasn't exactly immune to consequences as a (f)lame duck. Like giving a school a new see-saw to make up for an outbreak of Sweetums diarrhea. The same easy-resolution aspect could also be said of Ben's firing, since all he basically had to do was tell Leslie that he hated working for Sweetums because of the exact things she had publicly accused them of being - and having to put out fires because of the horrible things they did as a company on a daily basis. Although even Leslie wasn't sure in the end if she had, in fact, sold the town on fluoride. So there wasn't much in overall conflict in this episode, as all it took to win the day was for Tom to try to sell the product again, just with a different name. Then Jamm checkmates Leslie (he even has chess props) with Sweetums Drink-ems, only to have Tom save the day once again with H2Flow. So Tom, helping out Lame Duck (more like "Flame Duck") Leslie, first introduces the citizens to "#tdazzle," even offering up the chance of winning a snazzy plain blue t-shirt to whoever tweets about it (Ben won, by the way. Pawnee has become a microcosmal parody of this of course as Leslie even mentions that most every city in the country has fluoride in their water. But within this episode was a basic look at how we as a culture openly reject what's good for us, and how fear-mongering has somehow, for whatever reason, trumped science. In fact, a part of me regrets that he wasn't around to work his magic during Leslie's past efforts to better her community - like getting rid of Paunch Burger or any of the other things that got Councilman Jamm all pissed off. It wasn't the juiciest of Parks episodes, but I greatly enjoyed Tom discovering a way to use his talents to do some actual good in the Parks department. "It's just a f***ing fish."Leslie once again battled valiantly against her own Pawneeans commitment to turning themselves into the future America represented Idiocracy in "Fluoride," using Tom's skills as a 24/7 hype machine to sell the townsfolk on adding fluoride to their reservoir. *This is a review of the first Parks episode of the night, "Fluoride."
